Looks Like

Appearance: Hiwatari-kun is a young guy at 14 years old with a thin body. . He has a well sculpted face with fair skin and somewhat large ears. His hair and eyes, which are his most recognizable and completely natural traits, are blue. He keeps his hair somewhat long, and somewhat shaggy, although it is straight as an arrow. His clothes consist of his Azumano Jr. High uniform of white button down shirt with burgundy accents, brown pants and reading glasses. The glasses aren’t needed, but they are almost always on. His casual clothes include loose sweaters, jeans and an occasional winter coat. For being young, Satoshi is quite attractive and very mature looking in his expressions.
Notable Possessions: Hiwatari-kun almost always has his glasses with him, they are not for sight correction at all. In fact, they may the only barrier between Daisuke and Krad’s DNA from reacting. Another thing that Sato keeps with him is his black notebook and pen/pencil. He keeps them in his shirt pocket. He also owns a very beautiful paint brush set. The handles are thin gold with feathered detailing on the ends, and a variety of brush types of each. They are held in a cream colored folder.

Acts Like

Personality: Cold and calculating, Hiwatari-kun is a man trapped in a boy’s tragedy. Sato is very mature for his age, after graduating from high school at eight and from Lagoon University at thirteen. Sato is also the kind of person to protect those around him. He recognizes when others may be in danger, and warns them away when he can. He has a strong will, and can tolerate massive amounts of pain. Satoshi had to try living with and controlling his other half, Krad. So his emotions and personality were rarely shared. He has desires and dreams that has to be put out of the picture because of who he is. Satoshi is also obsessed with capturing Dark, the Phantom Thief. It is his life-long goal to capture the thief, and as Police Commander at the age of fourteen, he has the resources and determination. Though Hiwatari-kun keeps his secrets well hidden, he does find solace in a few things. So a smile from the boy is a rare gift for anyone.

Abilities/Weaknesses

Abilities/Strengths: Sato is quite strong for his size and stature, and his tolerance for pain is above average. (Having wings sprout from his back for so many times is extremely awful.) Hiwatari-kun is extremely intelligent, having graduated from High School at eight, and from Lagoon University at thirteen. He’s a genius with schoolwork, technology and with art and artifacts. Sato uses skills in his endeavor to capture Dark, protect Niwa Daisuke and also to control his other half-Krad. With the Hikari blood from his ancestors, his abilities are also his curse. Being able to put his power and soul into art is dangerous and very problematic after all. Sato has another ability that is very defined to his bloodline, the ability to sense an artwork that has power (if an artwork has enough power or soul within, it may become a figment of animation and be given a form of life. This is different for all artwork, however. Some are just sources of power themselves, it matters on the construction and how much power and care was put into making that artwork.) Through art, he could do almost anything, at a price he is not willing to pay. Satoshi can also recreate any piece of art created, even if he has only seen it once in person. Details would match, and there could be no differentiating them.
Weaknesses: Being human, Hiwatari-kun can be hurt like any mortal. He may have a high tolerance for pain, or an indifference to it after so long, but he stays conscious during most installations of pain. The Hikari blood in him gives the spirit Krad a vessel to use whenever his DNA is activated. Since the spirit Krad is apart from and part of Hiwatari-kun, Hiwatari is in Econtra without Krad inside. Satoshi’s most obvious, and most unnoticed secret is that he loves Niwa Daisuke. This feeling both triggers Krad’s spirit to transform his body, and puts Niwa Daisuke, Dark (well duh), the Harada twins and anyone else who is comes between Krad and Satoshi. This is one of the main struggles Satoshi must face, stopping Krad from taking away everything he holds dear.

History

History: Artwork is part of it’s creators, and part other… part spirit. Most of these spirits are so weak that nothing ever becomes of it. But the famous family of the Hikari had a strange and beautiful gift. And that gift could give life to their art. They knew the dangers of their art, and still they created.
The one that Satoshi knows most intimately was created and they was almost sealed (“Black Wings”) The art piece somehow awakened and took it’s creator as a host. But there were two spirits within “Black Wings.”
Alongside the Hikari artists, there was another family that was equally famous and entirely unknown. The Niwa family were famous thieves that would target the Hikari artwork, sealing the powerful spirits within. The thieves encountered the art piece Kokuyoku or “Black Wings.” Somehow the art piece was awakened and one half of the art piece took form within the thief-boy Niwa. Thus the one spirit became two, using the male boy from each family as host. Hikari family had Krad, and the Niwa family had Dark. They were one and opposites, which is why they are beautiful together in their original piece of art, “Black Wings.”
Without the other half of the art piece, (Dark), the Hikari family could not seal “Black Wings.” And so for generations, the Hikari family has obsessed with trying to capture the Phantom Thief “Dark.” Unsuccessful, the Hikari family kept trying so that this spirit could not drive them insane or hurt them as other art pieces had done before. Dark was to be captured and sealed with Krad (the spirit within the Hikari boy.)
And both Krad and Dark would only awaken in males of either bloodline, so some generations were without one, the other or even both.

Satoshi was born to a one Hikari Rio, who died of unknown reasoning soon after. It is rumored that either he or Krad killed Rio. And as the sole living member of the Hikari family, he inherited many things. One being, the ability to carry the spirit Krad within and apart from himself. His other half, being over three hundred years old, was created by Sato’s ancestors. The transformation to turn into Krad takes seconds, and happens after the male Hikari turns fourteen years old. While one is in physical form, the other mind and soul are present within. Satoshi also inherited the Hikari art ability, being able to work with many substances and making beautiful creations that are both powerful and eventually dangerous. Hiwatari-kun prefers, and almost never paints.
Orphaned, Satoshi entered the adoption agency and was adopted by Hiwatari Kei, the Chief of Police in Azumano. This man was so young to adopt at twenty-six. He wanted to use Satoshi for his family’s somewhat secret abilities and skills. Satoshi showed how well he could do in school by passing tests in every subject and graduating from High School at the age of eight. Satoshi also graduated from Lagoon University with his degree at the age of thirteen, also gaining his CPR license along the way. He is irrefutably brilliant.
Once he begins to sense the Hikari’s cursed Krad within himself, he is assigned as Police Commander by his (adoptive) father, Hiwatari Kei. Satoshi is obsessed with capturing Dark specifically, heading that division of Police and being any location that Dark announces he will steal from.
As an attempt to have a normal life, alongside being Police Commander in Azumano, Satoshi begins Jr. High alongside the other children his age. This included Niwa Daisuke. Soon enough, Satoshi assumes correctly that Daisuke is apart of the famous theif family Niwa. He remains enrolled in Azumano Jr. High and keeps a careful watch on Niwa Daisuke, slowly falling in love with the ungraceful boy. Also, Sato may be adopted by Hiwatari Kei, but he lives alone and uses very high tech security in his empty home, “as a habit.”
Unfortunately, love is the key to triggering the transformation of “Black Wings.” Satoshi had already taken preparations for this, wearing unneeded glasses to act as a barrier. His eyesight is fine. And almost every time Krad pushes his way out, Satoshi’s glasses either fall off or break. This happens especially when Satoshi resists the most. He does not want to let Krad out, ever. For fear of who the spirit would hurt, or what evil he may do.
Satoshi tries to keep Daisuke safe while at the same time pushing to capture Dark. He knows he cannot on several occasions, so Sato uses those times to gather data on the kaito (“phantom thief”). Hiwatari Kei is awful about interrupting Satoshi’s attempts to capture Dark, using both magical and logical ways to interfere.
On the Azumano Jr. High field trip to a tropic island for six days, Satoshi interrupts Dark’s attempt to steal the Eternal Guide, a pelican statue atop the lighthouse created by the Hikaris. After Daisuke and the Guide rescue Dark from within the mirror that Krad had captured him within, Satoshi released Towa-chan (the Eternal Guide spirit) from the Hikari’s service.
Satoshi has said that, “That which belongs to the Hikari’s will always end up in the Niwa’s hands.”
On every occasion that Krad tries to push into control of the body, Satoshi struggles. He is often seen hunching over, holding a hand over half of his face (which would block the view of his eye color changing from blue to Krad’s golden.) He hates the spirit within him and would always chose to capture Kaito Dark with his own skills and power instead of using Krad’s magic. Also, the way Krad finishes his possession of the body usually includes calling his wings, which sprout from Satoshi’s back in a very painful manner. It is through this obsessive pain that Krad can come out. Krad is as obsessed with killing Dark as Satoshi is with capturing him and sealing him away within “Black Wings” with Krad. Krad wishes to kill Dark for two reasons, he cannot be sealed if Dark is dead, and Dark stands between himself and Satoshi’s love. Krad believes Satoshi is his, and therefore no one elses. And anyone that would interfere (the Harada twins, Dark, and especially Niwa Daisuke) must be killed.
Police Commander Hiwatari Satoshi was betrayed by his (adoptive) father, Hiwatari Kei. Kei used Krad in order to awaken the never ending nightmare, “Black Wings” again. The awakening of such a strong piece of art caused the Cultural Revolution forty years ago, where so much was lost in both historical information and cultural awareness. “The monster that would escapes these chains is bound to nothing. And it will definitely harm people. And if was born in these chains, then it should die in these chains as well.”
Krad had taken over Satoshi’s body once more, and so started the awakening of Black Wings, the art piece that had been locked away for centuries. The art piece that could kill so many.
And inside Krad’s consciousness lay Satoshi. He would fight back as best he could within the confines of that other place. He had decided to sacrifice himself, and his body, from within. And only within could he destroy his body. Satoshi began to use a ritual circle to rip his body to shreds, ready to stop Krad. No matter what it took.
But it took Niwa to stop him. It took Niwa to let him see the light again.
And it took the Black Wings to seal Dark and Krad away together, as it should have been from the start.
